Water Analysis

As a minimum, two common contaminants should be tested for:

  • bacteria (coliform)
  • farming related chemicals (nitrates and nitrites)

There are many additional contaminants that may be harmful to your family's drinking water. However, testing for unknowns is usually not economically feasible. If you are aware of certain chemicals that are suspected on or near the property, you may request a test for specific items.

A typical “chemical” water analysis for a real estate transaction includes the following items in addition to Coliform bacteria: ph, Hardness, Iron, Manganese, Nitrates and Nitrites, and Total Solids.

If you are purchasing a property with an FHA or VA insured mortgage, be sure to tell us when ordering your water analysis since these loans require a special water analysis which includes Lead. The Lead test must be taken using certain protocols.

All well water samples should be taken according to Safe Drinking Water Act Standards and should be analyzed by a State Certified lab.
